Lament over Jerusalem

37 k“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that lkills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have mgathered nyour children together oas a hen gathers her brood punder her wings, and qyou were not willing! 38See, ryour house is left to you desolate.

Matthew 24:21-29

21For then there will be sgreat tribulation, tsuch as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, and never will be. 22And if those days had not been cut short, no human being would be saved. But for uthe sake of the elect those days will be cut short. 23 vThen if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ orThere he is!’ do not believe it. 24For wfalse christs and xfalse prophets will arise and yperform great signs and wonders, zso as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect. 25See, aaI have told you beforehand. 26So, if they say to you, ‘Look, abhe is in the wilderness,’ do not go out. If they say, ‘Look, he is in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it. 27 acFor as the lightning comes from the east and shines as far as the west, so will be adthe coming of the Son of Man. 28 aeWherever the corpse is, there the vultures will gather.

The Coming of the Son of Man

29Immediately after afthe tribulation of those days agthe sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and ahthe stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.

Luke 19:42-44

42saying, aiWould that you, even you, had known on this day the things that make for peace! And aothey will not leave one stone upon another in you, because you did not know apthe time of your aqvisitation.”

Luke 21:22-24

22for these are ardays of asvengeance, to fulfill atall that is written. 23 auAlas for women who are pregnant and for those who are nursing infants in those days! For there will be great distress upon the earth and avwrath against this people. 24They will fall by the edge of the sword and awbe led captive among all nations, and axJerusalem will be trampled underfoot by the Gentiles, ayuntil the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.

Luke 23:28-30

28But turning to them Jesus said, Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children. 29For behold, azthe days are coming when they will say, baBlessed are the barren and the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed!’ 30 bbThen they will begin to say to the mountains, ‘Fall on us,’ and to the hills, ‘Cover us.’
